Host Camper Low Water Flow Shower Fix

Since we have had the host camper we have had a problem with low water flow coming from the shower head when taking showers. The water flow has been so slow it is really hard to get the shampoo and soap off when showering. Replaced the shower head with the highly recommended Oxygenics White Standard 26781 Hand Held Sprayer Kit but the pressure got worse not better.

The solution is to replace your shower valve with a vacuum breaker with one with a D-Spud valve. See pictures below for shower valve with Vacuum Breaker verses D-Spud.

When I took the shower head off and the pressure was still bad coming out of the hose. I then took the hose off the shower valve on the wall and that is when I saw the tiny 1/8″ hole coming off the top of the shower valve preventing good water flow.

Due to plumbing codes when RV is built a vacuum breaker is required on shower hoses so if the shower head where to fall in to the toilet poop could not get siphoned back in to the water supply.

The solution is to buy a shower valve with a D-Spud connector with no vacuum breaker as shown below.

Note: If you drop your shower head in the toilet now and then maybe just keep the vacuum breaker?

Note: at first I was just going to drill out the vacuum breaker hole but found out there is a flapper inside and air hole below valve that would just leak if drilled out.

This is a very simple fix, as long as you have access to shower valve behind wall, and does not even require tools since you simply hand tighten two plastic nuts on back and then reconnect water lines.

To find the valves google “Chrome Two Handle Shower Valve with D-Spud” I ended up buying the Valterra unit below from Amazon which has copper valves and under body.

Valterra SHW 4, MTL, CH, DS, BR

Shower Valve With Vacuum Breaker On Top, Very Small 1/8″ Hole Blocks Water Flow
Shower Valve With D-Spud On Top, Good Water Flow, Larger 1/4″ Hole
